As influências do álbum vão desde Neil Young até o indie anos 90 de Eric's Trip, Pavement, Built to Spill e Guided By Voices.
(via)
"Hey its May 2011-- and we have some updates. Yeah, the new album is called "Mirror Traffic". There was a lot of deliberation on the album title front but in the end we went the cryptic route--for some reason "Madonna in Love" didnt swing it with the test market. FOr a long stretch when it was gonna be called "L.A. Guns", but with lawsuits flying left and right these days, I was talked off the ledge by cooler minds. This is bad form to talked about what might have been, Negative Hypnosis, but in the age of tell-all I thought I'd join in. We recorded it with Beck over the last year. It took a while to finish due to "Life"--the actual "rock hours" were pretty reasonable........in fact 68% of the tracking, vocals included, took place on one day, a first for me. We pretty much left it all out there, so look for 50 minutes of tunage, 13 songs, and LOTS of good times. Also, Janet Weiss is not with us anymore--over the last year she started Wild Flag .....its a growing concern--We couldn't hit the daily double. We wish her well in her future shredding. ... THe silver lining --- Jake Morris of the Joggers and newly hatched Night Moves has assumed the throne, and it's a pretty swank fit. Look for us in all the usual places in September.
THats all for now. Thanks y'all

"Washed Out is the operational alias for Atlanta, GA’s Ernest Greene, and on July 12th, we at Sub Pop Records will be releasing the first Washed Out full-length, Within and Without. We are excited about this, to an almost unseemly degree. Greene recorded Within and Without with Ben Allen, who, among a great many other things, co-produced Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavillion, Gnarls Barkley’s St. Elsewhere and Deerhunter’sHalcyon Digest. In 2009 Washed Out released two critically-acclaimed EPs; Life of Leisure (Mexican Summer) and High Times (Mirror Universe Tapes). Most recently, the Washed Out song “Feel It All Around,” from Life of Leisure, was chosen as the theme song for the new and very funny IFC seriesPortlandia, which features Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney/Sub Pop alum and current Wild Flag member Carrie Brownstein." Within and Without, esse é o nome do tão aguardado debut do Washed Out que será lançado pela Sub Pop dia 12 de Julho.
"At long last, the debut full-length from Chicago’s Smith Westerns has landed and it’s going to make this Summer the best ever, for real. With their metamorphosis over the past year from a sloppy teenage punk mess into a full-fledged glam pop explosion, this is one incredible leap of progress. Lovers and haters both will agree, and if you haven’t tuned in to their latest recordings, it might cause a jolt of euphoric confusion that you can really warm up to, as you marvel at their fastidious growth while digging through the outer fringes of rock’n roll’s vast well of influences. You can either chalk it up to the pristine Fuk Sity production that boggles the mind, or those instant classic songs that stick in your head for weeks, but any way you slice it, The Smith Westerns have officially arrived with this album. Strings and piano? Yep, they’ve really made those moves, and as they manage to keep each song interesting and unique, fans of true pop will be blown away like nothing else going these days. Straddling the fine line between the misty-eyed feyness of Brett Smiley and Milk’n'Cookies, with the slithering macho grunt of Marc Bolan’s silk pajamas tied around Alvin Stardust‘s throat, it’s nothing short of a modern Summer classic power pop album, and we’re beyond excited to offer it up as our first LP." Guided by Voices e me fizeram voltar a ouvir "Smothered in Hugs" mais umas mil vezes.
Ouça "Should Have", faixa que estará no primeiro album do Cloud Nothings!
Louis is softly spoken with a shock of ginger hair
"We actually had to check to make sure this wasn’t a cover of some obscure older song that was released in the 1950s that no one cared about. It’s not! It’s new! And that certainly speaks to the power ofSpectralsaka the one man band man Louis Jones. Look at that record cover! Even that could fool us. But whatever - you’re here for the song and “I Ran With Love But Couldn’t Keep Up,” is a killer. Lilting slide guitar, and those rounded, warm vocals…it’s enough to make us want to invent a time machine, climb in the time machine and then go back to the ’50s and dance with a girl in some overly bright diner to this song (that’s what they did, right?). But it’s cold out, which means we’re feeling lazy, which means we’re just going to put it on repeat. Now you can too." (Fader)
"Girls Names formed in Belfast in January 2009 with their first gig booked before the duo had even played together. In their short existence they've quickly streamlined their sound, forging their own self-styled "disposable noise pop" reminiscent of the 80s shadow world of Black Tambourine and Felt. They've been prolific too, honing their sound over the course of several releases, including an EP on Captured Tracks and a mini album on Tough Love. "I Lose" represents the next step in their evolution. Recorded as a three piece for the first time, the track is driven by an insistent cyclical riff, punctuated by Cathal Cully's deceptively assured croon. Entitled "I Lose" as a response to Brilliant Colors track on the flip, the song is charged with a confidence that belies its title, Cully lifting two fingers to the past as he intones: "I don't miss my old life". The first of their new recordings, "I Lose" bodes well for their forthcoming debut album in early 2011. San Francisco's Brilliant Colors have staked-out a unique spot in the indie music landscape, inspired in equal parts by post-punk DIY fervor and the spiky pop of C86 and early Flying Nun/Creation label output. Their 2009 album, Introducing, combined guitar buzz with dreamy melodies and rushing rhythms, forming a startling blend of The Dils and Shop Assistants. Fresh off the simultaneous release of singles on Slumberland and Make-A-Mess, and a UK tour with La La Vasquez, Brilliant Colors have hit the studio again to record "You Win", this time with the estimable Ty Segall. Driven by an absurdly catchy vocal melody and the band's now trademark distorted guitars, "You Win" is another anthem in Brilliant Colors' ever-growing catalog, offering a superb taster for their new album, due Spring 2011."(slumberland recs)
Under the pen name, East River Pipe, F.M. Cornog has recorded six extraordinary albums, all recorded and mixed entirely on a cheap multi-track mini-studio, with a bare minimum of outboard gear. These biting, ruminative micro-masterpieces have won Cornog much critical praise, but never fame and fortune. He has painted his America as a neon-lit wasteland filled with deluded losers, cheats, junkies, ultra-capitalist businessmen, freeway-roaming dreamers and the tragically fated. East River Pipe’s music has been described by the New York Times as “gentle, smart, and unspeakably sad.” Rolling Stone characterized him as “one of our generation’s great eccentric songwriters.” Sometimes harrowing, occasionally scathing, and often heartbreakingly beautiful, his songs have been covered by artists as diverse as David Byrne, Lambchop, the Mountain Goats, and Okkervil River. (Merge Recs)
2011 já está sendo "o ano". Desta vez o lançamento anunciado é o do East River Pipe. We Live in Rented Rooms sai pela Merge Records no dia 15 de fevereiro, e aqui você ouve "Cold Ground":
In an industry seemingly overgrown and cradled by recent lo-fi establishments, We Are Trees have taken that lo-fi aesthetic and chosen something different – the purest definition of crisp. With production that nurtures fidelity as a living, breathing art, this Virginia Beach band’s sound lies somewhere between the plains of Middle America and the cliffs of a Western Coast. The vocals, while drawing comparisons to Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear, are a mastery all their own, with sweeping “ohs” and cradling lyrics. And the finality of We Are Trees is that when all these elements are combined—the wind and whirl of the violin, the clicks and snaps where drumsticks sound like falling trees, the sharp, sophisticated acoustic guitar, and the ebullient voice of James Nee—there is little else to know than the need to keep listening. (Collective Crowd)
Formed at the tail-end of 2008 as a bedroom recording project, Small Black first made waves with their eponymous debut EP. Recorded in the attic of singer Josh Kolenik's uncle's remote Long Island beach-house/surfboard workshop, it served as an ideal introduction to the group with its pulsing patchwork synths and addictive, stay-gold hooks that seemed to unfurl themselves gradually over repeated listens. Slightly more immediate and polished than its predecessor, Small Black's new album New Chain remains a continuation of this contrasting ethos – a delirious smudging of the lines between melancholy and nostalgia, tension and celebration, unabashed pop music and experimentation. "It's always been a question for us," explains keyboardist/songwriter Ryan Heyner, "of how much to push it, how much to reveal. I find a lot of the best music creeps up on you."(Jag Jaguwar)
"In the fall of 2009, Dylan Baldi was an 18-year-old college student studying saxophone and sound recording at a small college near Cleveland, OH. He had played in bands around town since he was old enough to hold a guitar, but recently he’d been putting his solo music on record through the magic of home recordings. He titled the solo project “Cloud Nothings,” made a myspace page, friended some bands he liked, and sat back to wait. That’s when a certain NYC show promoter known for putting on shows in unorthodox venues emailed asking if Cloud Nothings wanted to play with buzz bands Real Estate and Woods at the Market Hotel. This happened to be the same date that Dylan had to play a mandatory performance with his college band or end up failing the class, which put him in the awkward position of having to decide if it was worthwhile to drop out of college to play a very first show with a non-existent band that had only been written about on a couple blogs and heard by a few people. We are most grateful for his decision. Cloud Nothings will release a 7 inch single called ‘Didn’t You’ in the summer of 2010." (Old Flame Recs)
'Last year, the wounded, starry-eyed San Francisco indie-pop group Girls released their debut album Album and made our year-end top 10. Before this year is up, they'll follow Album with a brand new EP. Broken Dreams Club is out November 22 on True Panther. Broken Dreams Club includes six songs and lasts 30 minutes. JR White, Girls' instrumental guru, recorded it at the band's own home studio. And according to the music-selling site Interpunk, where you can now pre-order the EP, Broken Dreams Club features "a more massive, lusher sound with horns, pedal steel and psychedelic effects dappled throughout."'
"Psychedelic-tinged noise rock quartet Women formed in 2007 around the talents of Chris Reimer, Mike Wallace, and brothers Pat and Matt Flegel in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The longtime friends utilize a shape-shifting arsenal of samplers and drum machines amidst the traditional rock setup of bass, drums, and guitars, and emit a sonic onslaught that has drawn comparisons to Caribou, Velvet Underground, No Age, and Abe Vigoda. The group recorded its eponymous debut with Flemish Eye/Jagjaguwar labelmate Chad VanGaalen in 2008 before embarking on a North American and European tour. Upon returning to Canada, the band went back into the studio with VanGaalen and recorded its second album, Public Strain, which was released in 2010. " (AMG)
"Washed Out is the stage name of musician Ernest Greene. In June 2009, Greene moved back home to the rural town of Perry, Georgia and started producing songs in his bedroom studio. He soon won the favor of a number of influential music bloggers after they found his music on his MySpace page. His style has been identified with the chillwave movement. The first two Washed Out EPs were released in August and September 2009. Washed Out made his debut New York City performance (his second live show ever) at Santos Party House." (Wikipedia)
